The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the alleged suspension of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, labelling it as unlawful.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party criticised the suspension, saying that it contravened the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and failed to adhere to proper procedures.
The Abia state chapter of the party had suspended Wabara for endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second term just five months into the governor’s administration.

“No State Working Committee has the power to suspend or take any disciplinary action against a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party without due recourse to the NWC, as provided under Section 57 (7) of the PDP Constitution.” The party said in the statement.
It cited Section 57 (7), which clearly states that no Executive Committee at any level, apart from the NEC, has the power to discipline a NEC member, Deputy Governor, or National Assembly member.
Through this regulation, the party underscored that the state chapter lacks the authority to suspend Wabara, a NEC member.
The PDP condemned the move as impulsive and unconstitutional, cautioning those involved to reconsider their actions or face disciplinary action.
