A small plane crashed in a northeastern neighbourhood of Philadelphia on Friday, causing a large fire and prompting a significant emergency response. The incident, which unfolded in a densely populated area, led to a fireball and several ground fires, as reported by local FOX29 news.
The crash occurred just two days after a tragic collision between a passenger jet and a military helicopter near Washington’s Reagan National Airport, which claimed 67 lives in the deadliest US air disaster in nearly 25 years. According to FOX29, six people were aboard the plane that crashed in Philadelphia, though this information has not been independently verified by AFP.

The crash site was located near the Roosevelt Mall, a shopping area with a large parking lot and several retail outlets. The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management declared a “major incident,” advising the public to avoid the area as roads surrounding the scene were closed. Emergency crews, including dozens of firefighters and fire trucks, were deployed to the location.
Northeast Philadelphia Airport, which caters to smaller aircraft, is located nearby, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management confirmed the closure of roads near Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, urging people to stay clear of the area.
