Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has shared images of the Nigerian national football team stranded at a Libyan airport over the weekend, ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifier.
According to the captain, the team was left stuck for more than 12 hours in an abandoned airport after their flight was unexpectedly diverted during its descent.
Troost-Ekong revealed that the Libyan government suddenly withdrew permission for the team’s plane to land in Benghazi without providing any explanation.
As a result, the airport gates were locked, and the team was left without access to phone service, food, or drink. The captain expressed frustration, suggesting that this could be a deliberate attempt to play mind games with the team.
Photos shared by the captain on X showed members of the squad sleeping in the airport as they waited for the situation to be resolved.
