Nigeria’s Flying Eagles lost to the USA in their second group game of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria’s defense got exposed early on as Soto headed in Alex Mendez’s corner-kick at the far post in the 18th minute, giving the USA a 1-0 lead in the Bielsko-Biala rain.
Nigeria created a couple of chances in the first half, substitute Aniekeme Okon’s volley was saved by Brady Scott in the USA goal. Maxell Effiom also had a go from range, his effort hit the crossbar.
Less than a minute into the second half Soto got in behind Nigeria’s the defense, Chris Gloster found the forward with a well weighted pass to score the second.
VAR came into play when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after a foul by Keita on Michael but the Nigerian Midfielder was in an offside position leading up to the foul. A VAR review cancelled penalty.
The US team held on to get the win
Nigeria will play Ukraine on Thursday night, while USA play Qatar in the final group games to decide who will advance to the next round.
Today, Mali face Saudi Arabia and South Africa will take on South Korea.
