Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said Poland is uniquely positioned to persuade the United States to take a stronger stance on supporting Ukraine as European leaders gather for high-level talks in London.
Speaking ahead of the summit, where European powers will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Tusk described the US position on Ukraine as a dilemma and stressed the need to transcend it.
“Poland will be more heard because of our high defence spending and very good relations with the Americans,” he said.
His comments come after a tense exchange at the White House on Friday between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, which has raised uncertainty over continued American support for Kyiv.
The new US administration has sought to improve ties with Moscow, with both Trump and Vice President JD Vance often mirroring Kremlin narratives on the conflict.

Tusk reaffirmed Poland’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine. “Poland is on the side of Ukraine without any ‘buts.’ The position of the Washington administration is not as clear as our position on the Ukraine-Russia issue,” he said.
The Polish leader also echoed calls from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for a summit between the European Union and the United States to address transatlantic security.
He urged European nations to help fortify Poland and the Baltic states’ borders with Russia and Belarus, including deploying additional troops.
“I will convince our partners of this,” Tusk said.
