The Kaduna State Police Command has reported the arrest of 13 suspects in the Kawo area of the state, where a naval officer, Lt. Commodore M. Buba, was killed by a suspected phone thief on Sunday.

DSP Mansir Hassan, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, informed the media that the deceased officer, a senior course student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, was attacked and stabbed in the chest with a knife near a bus stop before the Kawo flyover around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the police, the tragic event unfolded when the senior officer experienced a flat tire while driving from Jaji. As he got out of his vehicle to change the tire, the unknown assailant suddenly appeared and demanded that he hand over his mobile phone.

When the officer questioned the demand and refused to comply, the assailant stabbed him in the chest with a local knife.

The police also reported that the assailant was subsequently subdued and attacked by bystanders, who killed him on the spot, while the injured senior officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In the wake of the incident, police stated that their operatives conducted a raid in the Kawo area and apprehended 13 suspects armed with knives and other dangerous weapons.
