A girl in Matero has faked an abduction and is hiding at her boyfriend’s house just three weeks after the Zambia Police freed 13 girls who had been kidnapped.
Rae Hamoonga, the spokesperson for the Zambia Police Service, stated in a press release that police in Matero, in the province of Lusaka, prosecuted and detained a female juvenile aged 19 for cheating in violation of Section 311 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
According to Hamoonga, the young girl pretended to be heading to church on October 16, 2022, when she actually went to her boyfriend’s residence in Lilanda West, where she said to have been kidnapped.
He said that this came about as a result of a report made to the police by the juvenile’s uncle, Brighton Mwamba, age 38, of Lilanda West, that the juvenile’s niece, age 19, had been kidnapped while she was on her way to church on Sunday, October 16, 2022, in a Soweto compound.
“It was further alleged that the juvenile was injected with unknown substance which made her become unconscious and was later taken to unknown place,” he said
Hamoonga claimed that the accused kidnappers called the juvenile’s uncle, Sitima Tasi of Chongwe, and demanded K50,000; else, they threatened to harm the child; and gave him a 48-hour deadline.
And on October 17, 2022, at around noon, the victim’s aunt, Dainess Banda, 34, of the same residence, contacted her number. When the victim answered, she told her aunt that she didn’t know where she was but that she was in a home with no windows and only a door.
“She went on to state that there were Ten other girls in the house and that they were being kept without eating,” Hamoonga stated.
According to Hamoonga, the Police launched an inquiry into the situation, and on October 19, 2022, they were successful in removing the minor from the boyfriend’s home in Lilanda Township.
“She has been detained in Police custody and will appear in Court soon,” Hamoonga noted
Since then, Mr. Hamoonga has issued a warning to anyone with bad intentions who might want to engage in promiscuity or any other crime and later use the pretext of being kidnapped, warning them that police should not treat such fabrications with kid gloves because anyone found guilty will be subjected to the full force of the law.
“We are encouraging the citizenry to join hands with the Police in the fight against crime for the betterment of our society,” Hamoonga said
