During cost of living protests on Tuesday afternoon, February 21, comedian Eric Omondi and a group of protesters were arrested by police for attempting to forcibly access Parliament.
The well-built men, led by Omondi, had blocked the busy Parliament Road in Nairobi while demanding an audience with the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to address the skyrocketing cost of living.
Despite attempts by police officers to persuade the protesters to leave the venue, they persisted, leading to the use of teargas to disperse the crowd and arrest the comedian and a few others. Calm was later restored on Tuesday afternoon following the incident.
Lead Editor, Africa Blogging Daniel Ominde Okoth speaking on Breakfast Central confirmed the rising cost of living and the depreciation of the Kenyan Shillings in the past few months due to the post-pandemic recovery, and disruption of the global supply chain among others.
