Former President of the United States Donald Trump has arrived at the Manhattan district attorney’s office, in lower Manhattan, where he is under arrest and in police custody before his upcoming arraignment.
Although it is unclear if his mug shot will be taken, Trump will be fingerprinted as part of the arrest and taken to a courtroom, where he will be arraigned.
His appearance is expected to be swift and routine but represents a surreal and historic moment in US history.
This arraignment in a New York courtroom makes Donald Trump the first former president to face criminal charges.
News outlets are barred from broadcasting the arraignment live, a judge said Monday night, rejecting a request from several media outlets, including CNN. However, five still photographers, will be allowed to take shots of Trump and the courtroom before the hearing begins.
The former president called for “protests” in the event of his arrest last month, and he later revved up his rhetoric, warning of “potential death and destruction” if he was charged criminally. He continued his criticism of the prosecutor overnight on Truth Social, a social media platform created by Trump Media & Technology Group.
