The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested four minors for allegedly stealing iron rods from an uncompleted building in Guzape, Abuja.
The suspects, identified as 15-year-olds Matthew Vincent and Timothy Shedrack, 11-year-old Moses Vincent, and Lucky Enock, were apprehended after residents reported suspicious activity at the site to Guzape Police Station.
Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh stated that preliminary investigations revealed the minors scaled the fence and used crude tools to dismantle the rods, which they allegedly sold to a local scrap dealer known as “Babanbola.”
Efforts are ongoing to locate Babanbola, suspected of being part of a network facilitating the theft and resale of construction materials.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged parents to monitor their children’s activities and called on businesses to verify the source of materials before purchase.
The minors will be sent to juvenile homes for rehabilitation, with legal action pending for those found culpable. Construction site owners were also advised to enhance security measures.
