The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command issued a statement on Monday, announcing the arrest of six members of a kidnapping ring in the country’s capital.
According to the statement released on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, security forces apprehended the unsuspecting kidnappers while they were indulging in leisure at a hotel in Bassa Village.
The captured bandits were reportedly behind the recent abduction of a man identified as Joshua Eze, along with several others in Abuja.
The suspects include: Buhari Muhammad ‘m’ (20 yrs), a wanted kidnap kingpin; Muhammad Sabiu ‘m’ (20 yrs), Isah Abdullahi ‘m’, Hamzat Musa ‘m’ (21 yrs), Fatima Abdullahi ‘f’ (22 yrs), and Zuliat Yusuf ‘f’ (23 yrs).
They were apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command.
SP Josephine Adeh also revealed in the statement that the Police recovered items from the suspects, including an AK47 rifle, ten mobile phones, a cash sum of N345,000, and other valuables.
According to the statement, the suspects admitted to committing the crime and other related offenses within the country’s capital.
Kidnap victim Joshua Eze was taken on January 27, and during the abduction, Blessing Eze, his wife, suffered an injury from a stray bullet.
However, on January 28, 2024, Mr. Eze was successfully rescued in good health by police operatives of the Command.
Residents of the FCT are urged to support the fight against criminal activities by promptly reporting any suspicious moves from individuals or groups.
