The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Friday Onu, who was caught on video assaulting a female commercial driver, Yetunde Amole, on the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The footage, which went viral earlier this week, showed the suspect attacking Amole near the Oriental Hotel.
According to police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, when Onu was allegedly trying to steal the car battery from Amole’s vehicle. When she intervened, he violently attacked her.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of a viral video circulating on social media, depicting the assault of one Yetunde Amole by a suspected thug near the Oriental Hotel area in Lagos. The command condemns this act in the strongest terms and wishes to update the public on the actions already taken,” Hundeyin stated.
He further explained, “The incident occurred on April 7, 2025, at about 2 p.m., when the suspect, identified as Friday Onu, was caught attempting to steal Amole’s car battery. Amole courageously intervened to prevent the theft, which resulted in the suspect assaulting her.”
Onu was swiftly apprehended by officers from the Maroko Division. However, he later fell ill while in custody and was transferred to Falomo Police Hospital, where he remains under close medical supervision.
“Following a prompt response by officers of the Maroko Division, Friday Onu was arrested shortly after the incident and detained at the division. Preparations for his arraignment were underway when he suddenly took ill. He was immediately transferred to Falomo Police Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under close supervision,” Hundeyin said.
He assured the public that the suspect would face charges once he is declared medically fit to stand trial.
“The Lagos State Police Command assures the public that justice will be served. The suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as police medical professionals declare him fit to stand trial.”
Hundeyin also praised Amole’s bravery and encouraged public cooperation with law enforcement: “The command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents and urges the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities. We also commend Ms. Amole for her bravery and assure her and all victims of crime that their cases will be thoroughly pursued to ensure justice is served in all cases.”
In the viral video, Amole appeared visibly distressed, with a swollen face, recounting how Onu entered her vehicle posing as a passenger and claimed he was heading to the Nigerian Law School. She said she became suspicious after noticing him through her rear-view mirror, allegedly attempting to remove her car battery. When she confronted him, he turned violent—beating her, tearing her clothes, and dragging her in public.
