The Borno State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals accused of stealing 25 mobile phones along Damboa Road in Maiduguri.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation.
Daso revealed that officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted the suspects on Tuesday while they were travelling in a tricycle. Upon inspection, a collection of stolen mobile phones was discovered in their possession.
The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed, reportedly admitted to snatching phones from victims in various communities across Borno and Adamawa States.
“The suspects were intercepted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on 10 December while riding a tricycle,” Daso said, as quoted by NAN.
“They confessed to targeting communities including Mubi, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Areas.”
Daso added that efforts are underway to return the recovered devices to their rightful owners.
“The suspects will also be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he said.
