The Imo State Police Command has confirmed an explosion that occurred on Sunday in Umuneke Community, Mbieri, located in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
In an interview ,the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, reported that while no casualties were recorded, an investigation is underway to uncover the cause of the explosion.
Okoye revealed that the blast targeted a newly completed, yet-to-be-occupied building.
He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Anti-Bomb Squad had visited the scene to ensure the area was free of any additional explosives.
He assured the public of the command’s commitment to uncovering the cause of the incident and holding those responsible accountable.
Residents were encouraged to continue their lawful activities without fear, as the police are actively working to maintain security in the area.
Local villagers recounted that the destroyed building had been recently completed by a couple who intended to move in by February.
They described hearing a loud explosion in the middle of the night and discovering the house reduced to rubble hours later.
