Reports of the murder of certain Americans in the state have been denied by the Anambra Police Command. No Americans were in the convoy that was ambushed by gunmen on Tuesday, according to a statement made by the Anambra command spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in Onitsha.

The U.S. Consulate personnel convoy was attacked by gunmen in the state’s Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Ikenga, however, said that two mobile police officers and two U.S. Consulate employees on the convoy were killed, and both their bodies and vehicles were set ablaze.

He claims that a Joint Security Force has started a search and rescue operation to find and capture the shooters.

“Following an attack on a convoy of staff of U.S Consulate around 3:30pm along Atani, Osamale road.

“The hoodlums murdered two of the PMF operatives, and two staff of the Consulate, and set their bodies ablaze and their vehicles.

“Also, the arsonist/murderers on sighting the responding joint security forces abducted two Police operatives, the driver of the second vehicle and took to their heels.

“No U.S citizen was in the convoy”, he said.

Ikenga stated that the command was worried about such officials visiting the state without consulting local police or other security agencies.

He promised that the fight against rebels in the state would continue until complete stability was restored.
