The Katsina State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnap attempt involving four commercial vehicles along the Funtua-Gusau highway on Saturday night, rescuing 18 passengers unharmed.
In a statement issued late Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, revealed that suspected armed bandits ambushed the vehicles at around 9:30 pm.
The targeted vehicles included a Toyota Avensis heading to Yankara village and three others traveling from Gusau to Funtua. “The suspected kidnappers, armed with AK-47 rifles, were repelled by operatives following a swift response to the distress call,” said Sadiq.
In a separate operation the same night, at Gidan Gada village in Kafur Local Government Area, armed bandits rustled several cattle. Police officers from Kafur and Malumfashi Divisions pursued the culprits to Fanisau village, recovering all stolen animals during a gunfight.
Unfortunately, the Kafur Divisional Police Officer sustained a gunshot wound but is reportedly responding well to treatment.
Commending the bravery of the officers, Katsina State Police Commissioner CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid security efforts.
