The Nigerian Police have stopped a demonstration in Okene Local Government Area that was purportedly organised by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Kogi Central District (PDP-Kogi).
The Kogi Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, announced in a statement signed by Williams Ovye-Aya, the command spokesperson, in Lokoja on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
In response to her accusation of sexual harassment by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate for six months last month for suspected wrongdoing. Later, a procedure to remove her from the Senate was launched.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan was scheduled to visit her constituency on Tuesday for Sallah to hold a rally opposing the claimed recall process that is now underway.

Allegedly, the purpose of the visit was to interact with her residents and community while promoting harmony and collaboration for the district’s advancement.
The commissioner clarified that after receiving an intelligence assessment on security risks in Kogi, the state government had already prohibited gatherings and processions of any kind.
“The Kogi police commissioner hereby requests that the rally’s organisers call off the event for the sake of state peace.
“The cancellation request was made in response to intelligence that certain criminals intended to take over the process and disrupt the state’s tranquillity.
“The state’s current peace cannot be endangered, and the command cannot afford to do so.”
