In 2024, at least 319 kidnapped victims in Katsina State were rescued from the hideouts of kidnappers and bandits by the dedicated officers of the State Police Command.
The victims have been reunited with their families and loved ones, according to the Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Musa.
CP Musa also disclosed that the Command neutralised 40 bandits, recovered 2,081 rustled animals, and returned them to their rightful owners, contributing to the revitalisation of the local economy.
Speaking on Monday at the Police Officers’ Mess during the maiden end-of-year event, which included presenting awards and honouring outgoing and retiring officers, CP Musa highlighted the Command’s achievements.
He revealed that 199 suspected armed robbers were arrested, effectively enhancing security across Katsina State. Additionally, 573 suspects were apprehended for various offences, including criminal force, intimidation, and breaches of trust, underscoring the Command’s commitment to combating crime in all forms.
“Our efforts have resulted in a reduction in the crime rate across the State,” CP Musa stated.
He added that the Command dismantled several notorious criminal networks, recovered substantial evidence, and rescued multiple kidnapped victims. Furthermore, 23 major drug dealers were charged to court, disrupting illicit drug supplies and promoting a safer society.
Other achievements include the arrest and prosecution of 32 suspected offenders, the apprehension of 89 motor vehicle thieves, and the recovery of 27 stolen vehicles and motorcycles, enhancing road safety.
The Command also upgraded its structures and facilities to ensure efficiency and better serve the community.
In his goodwill message, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina, commended the Police Commissioner and his team for their efforts and urged them to continue striving for greater achievements.
Governor Malam Dikko Radda, represented by the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, praised the Command’s efforts. He noted that since assuming office in May 2023, significant progress had been made in addressing the insecurity that previously engulfed 24 local government areas.
The Governor emphasised the need to sustain these efforts to ensure a peaceful and prosperous Katsina State.
During the event, Governor Radda was honoured with an award for his dedication to ending insecurity in the state. Other awards included recognition for inter-agency security synergy, selfless service to humanity, and leadership excellence awarded to CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa for his strategic and incorruptible leadership.
