Security operatives have gunned down three people suspected to be separatist Yoruba nation agitators after invading Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan.
News Central confirmed that the masked men were stationed at different locations within the area, causing pandemonium among commuters and residents along the routes.
Owners of shops around Awolowo area, Bodija, and Ikolaba quickly shut down and deserted their business premises.
The security operatives at the secretariat were overwhelmed as they couldn’t disperse the agitators until the arrival of policemen from the state command and other anti-crime agencies in conjunction with members of the Nigerian Army, 2 Division, who disbanded them.
Operatives of the state security network codenamed Amotekun also joined to quell the agitation.
Motorists plying the route took alternative roads and commuters scampered to safety.
Road users en route Secretariat were diverted along Customs Junction as the Secretariat-Queen Elizabeth Road had been cut off traffic.
Several attempts by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd.), to calm the situation were futile, as the agitators insisted on hoisting their flag within the Secretariat.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso is yet to make a public statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, leader of Yoruba Self Determination group, Professor Banji Akintoye and Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho have distanced themselves from the group of agitators that invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan on Saturday.
