South African police have launched an urgent manhunt for gunmen responsible for killing eight people at a tavern in the Umlazi township of Durban late Friday night.
The attack is the latest in a string of mass shootings in South Africa, a country grappling with one of the world’s highest murder rates. According to police reports, an unknown number of armed assailants entered the bar and opened fire on patrons.
First responders discovered eight victims, including two women, aged between 22 and 40, lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the killings.
Shootings are common in some areas in South Africa, often driven by gang-related violence and alcohol-fuelled disputes. While many citizens legally own firearms for personal protection, illegal weapons are widely available.
Police data indicates that South Africa experiences around 75 murders daily, highlighting the severity of the country’s crime challenges.
