Police Probe Gunmen Attack at “One Man Village” in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has commenced investigations into the attack on a Supermarket located at One Man Village in the state, which resulted in the death of four customers, including a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

State Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada confirmed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigative Department in Lafia has been instructed to dig into the attack which happened near Mararaba, in the Karu Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night.

 Eye witnesses said at about 8:45pm on Tuesday night, some unknown armed men believed to be a gang of armed robbers, numbering four, stormed the supermarket as it bustled with its usual activities of the day.

Unfortunately, four customers were shot and killed during the operation when the robbers started shooting at random. A CBN staff, identified through his staff identity card, was among those confirmed dead from the incident.

The Nasarawa state Police Spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident when journalists contacted him on Wednesday.

The Police Spokesperson added that the remains of the victims had been deposited at the morgue. He said investigations into the incident were ongoing, and the outcome will be reported.

“I wish to confirm that on January 2, 2024. Some hoodlums numbering four attacked the Wisdom supermarket at Adehi, Karu local government shooting sporadically.

“The armed men opened fire on customers and four persons were recovered and taken to the hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctors.

“Their corpses have been deposited at Mararaba Medical Centre. The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigative Department in Lafia to move to the scene and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the case.

“The outcome of the investigation will be made known,” Nasel said.

Recall that on Monday night, some yet-to-be-identified armed men abducted the Executive Chairman of Akwanga local government area of the state, Alhaji Safiyanu Isah Andaha, and his friend, Adamu Umar Tanko, also known as Adamu Custom.

The abductors later demanded a 50million naira ransom, a close family member revealed on Tuesday.

The Chairman was, however, released from captivity on Tuesday night alongside his friend, Adamu. This was after a ransom of 10million naira was paid to the abductors after extensive negotiations.
