The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Martin Okoth Ochola, has promoted at least 9,312 subordinate officers. This was made known by the Police in Uganda on Tuesday.
The promotions, which became effective on June 1, 2023, were determined based on a number of criteria, according to CP Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson.
The requirements include seniority, work history, acting positions, exemplary performance in tasks like operations and task execution, and discipline history, according to CP Namaye’s statement on Tuesday morning.
A minimum of 1,145 officers received promotions from Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) to Inspector of Police (IP), 1,531 officers from Sergeant (Sgt) to AIP, and 3,956 officers from Police Constable to Corporal.
Three Head Constables (HC) were promoted to Head Constable Majors (HCM), 28 Station Sergeants were promoted to Head Constables, and 2,644 officers were promoted from the rank of Corporal (Cpl) to Sergeant, according to Ms. Namaye.
“We congratulate the officers and their families upon this well-deserved occasion of their promotion. We encourage them and other officers to continue serving the public diligently,” she said.
