Rights activist Omoyele Sowore appeared at the Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja on Monday following a viral video in which he alleged police extortion.
In the footage, Sowore accused officers of illegal activities along the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road in Lagos. The video also showed a heated exchange after officers flagged down his car and directed the driver to park.
The viral video sparked public outcry, leading to the police summoning Sowore for questioning.
He attended with his lawyers and supporters, who sang solidarity songs outside the bureau.

This is not Sowore’s first encounter with law enforcement. In September 2024, the former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate was briefly detained at Lagos airport over alleged ties to #EndBadGovernance protests.
Earlier, in February 2024, treasonable felony charges against Sowore were dismissed by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja after the Attorney General filed a notice of discontinuance.
