Security operatives have recovered some items including explosives from a suspected IPOB camp in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.

The IPOB camp is situated in Obegu, a region that divides the state’s Onicha-Isu and Ishielu Local Government Areas.

SP Chris Anyanwu, the police spokesman, told reporters on Thursday at the command centre in Abakaliki that security personnel invaded the camp in response to reliable intelligence that criminals were operating and causing havoc in the state inside the Ishielu axis.

Anyanwu claimed that Sunday Ubah, alias Bongo, the IPOB/ESN leader in Ebonyi State, was apprehended after a swift investigation and cooperative effort with a team of detectives assigned to Ohaukwu Division.

Incriminating goods were also uncovered during the operation, including explosives, which the police described as the largest in the South-East and capable of massive building destruction and mass human killing.

Two of the hoodlums were neutralised as a result of the police crackdown on what they called hoodlums, while other hoodlums managed to escape with varying degrees of bullet wounds, costing other police officers minor injuries.
