The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has reported the successful rescue of seven more students who were abducted from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, Kogi State.

This announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner of Police, SP William Aya, in a statement released on Thursday.

With this operation, the total number of students rescued now stands at 21.

The Police Commissioner detailed that the rescue mission was carried out by a specialised unit, which included a helicopter crew, a monitoring team, and a Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU).

“The diligence and indomitable spirit of the combined team led to the rescue of an additional seven victims, bringing the total to twenty-one,” Aya said.

“Be it noted that “it is not over until it is over,” so we should not rest on our oars; instead, all hands must be on deck to ensure all are safely rescued and perpetrators brought to deserved justice,” he declared.

Aya praised the undeniable and exceptional cooperation, collaboration, and synergy among the security agencies, local vigilantes, and hunters in the state.

“The Commissioner of Police uses this medium to thank and appreciate the Inspector-General of Police for the deployment of the air component, the security personnel, and vigilantes/hunters for their show of unprecedented and undiluted patriotism and altruism, and to the good people of Kogi State and the vibrant press for their show of concern and empathy.

“The CP continues to solicit the cooperation, collaboration, and solidarity of the good people of the confluence state with the police and other security agencies because, together, we shall ensure adequate security of life and property of law-abiding citizens in the state,” he said.

News Central reports that bandits raided the university premises two weeks ago at night and abducted 24 students.

Last week, the Police confirmed that 14 students had been safely rescued, and operatives were still in the bush with local hunters to rescue the remaining students.
