The Abuja police command says two suspected armed robbers were gunned down while attempting to steal a Prado Jeep at gunpoint in the Jahi area of Abuja, the nation’s capital.
While parading two arrested robbery gang members at a press briefing in Abuja, on Friday, CP Benneth Igweh said this happened around 10:45 pm on Thursday.
The four-man robbery gang engaged police in a fierce gun battle. The operatives were on crime-prevention patrol led by DPO of Mabushi police division.
On sighting the police operatives, the four-man robbery gang opened fire, which resulted in a gun duel where two of the robbers were neutralised.
“While during the crossfire with our men, two among the four-men robbery gang whose names were identified as Joshua Godfrey A.K.A. Dogo and Abdulsalam Mamuda both of Mabushi village were arrested,” he said.
Police recovered a blue Toyota Matrix operational vehicle with registration. No. BWR 626 JB from the robbers.
Thereafter, the arrested suspects led police operatives to the recovery of another Toyota Corolla car with registration number RBC 743 AH*, which must have been stolen from a resident.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and properties. He urged residents and all medical facilities in FCT to be on the look out and to inform the police if they sight anybody with bullet wounds.
