A stray bullet fired by a policeman along Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan claimed the life of a young student on his way to sit for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.

Eyewitnesses reported that the officer, while pursuing a fleeing vehicle, discharged his firearm in an attempt to stop the suspect. One of the bullets reportedly missed its target and struck a schoolboy riding on his father’s motorcycle with his twin brother.

According to reports, the boy was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The deceased and his twin were en route to their examination center when the incident happened.

Outraged by the incident, market traders and sympathizers carried the boy’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice and calling for an audience with Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a video circulating online, security personnel were seen attempting to manage the growing crowd as protesters demanded transparency, accountability, and reforms in police operations in public areas.
