A Nigerian living in Poland has expressed his frustrations on social media about a Polish bank refusing to open an account for his child in Poland. The disgruntled Nigerian disclosed that banks in Poland maintain a uniform policy against Nigerian customers.
He said, “I am embarrassed, disgraced. I’m angry and upset. Nigerians, what have you done to them in Poland?”
“They said they don’t open accounts for Nigerians. I asked them why only Nigerians. They said, ‘anything Nigeria, no,’” he recounted.
“I don’t know why God put me in that country, because I’m not part of all that scamming and nonsense, but now my child must suffer,” he lamented.
“Other people are suffering what some useless vagabonds have caused. What have you done to people in Poland that the banks here don’t want to open accounts for us?” he asked.
Directing his anger to corrupt Nigerians, he said; “You’re mad, you these mad young lazy boys. You have left the shores of Nigeria and come and destroy Poland. Now the young generation coming to Poland will have to suffer.”
Unlike Polish Banks, in Nigeria, the law permits foreigners to open a bank account once they fulfil all conditions stated accordingly by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Records have shown that some Nigerians overseas have been involved in banking scams hence the restrictions suffered by innocent compatriots.
One of such is Hushpuppi who is currently serving time in the United States for fraud. In October 2023, two Nigerians were convicted of money laundering, fraud and numerous scams that resulted in the loss of millions.
