South African musician and businessman Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo has died at age 40. The singer and songwriter died after suffering a stroke earlier and was rushed to the hospital. Mampintsha was a member of the award-winning group Big Nuz.
Afrotainment who had published a statement confirming his health status after the stroke amidst rumours upon his return from a performance with Big Nuz said he was currently in hospital and under doctors’ observation.
Although, The family has asked that the public and media respect their privacy during this time. On Saturday, Mampintsha’s former manager, Dogg Durban confirmed the musician’s death to the media.
Tributes have since poured out on social media after news of Mampintsha’s passing spread.
While some fans are worried about the state of his wife Babes Wodumo and son, Sponge.
The family shared details of his memorial service, which is set to be held on Thursday in Durban Central, and said that his funeral would take place on Friday. However, the details have not yet been finalised and would be shared in due course.
Zenele Maphumulo said “The funeral will be on Friday, we are still sourcing the venue with the help of the government, which has come on board to assist us as we all know that this was an icon in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are planning to have the memorial service on Thursday at the ECC church, Pastor Vusi Dube’s church, and will be starting at 11am. Everyone is welcome to come to that memorial service – the public is also welcome because we are celebrating the life of Mampintsha.” The musician is survived by His Wife, Babe Wodumo and Son.
