Porto Manager Claims Arsenal Manager Insulted His Family

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao alleged that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made derogatory remarks about his family during the Champions League last 16 match against the Gunners.

The Gunners went through to the quarter-finals after a 4-2 penalty-shootout victory thanks to two saves from David Raya.

“What Arteta said, towards the bench in Spanish, he insulted my family,” Conceicao said in the news conference.

Sources within Arsenal have stated that Arteta refutes the allegations.

Following the conclusion of the match, the two managers engaged in what appeared to be a heated discussion on the pitch before being separated.

“He should focus on training his team,” said Conceicao. “The result was injust. The team deserved to go through.”

Before Conceicao’s comments, Arteta was asked about the confrontation at the end and said: “No comment. Thank you very much.”

In the first leg in Portugal, Porto secured a 1-0 victory. However, Leandro Trossard’s 41st-minute goal at Emirates Stadium leveled the tie, leading to extra time and eventually penalties.

David Raya’s crucial saves played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s advancement to the quarter-finals of the tournament, marking their first appearance in the last eight in 14 years. The draw for the quarter-finals is scheduled for Friday.

Additionally, in 2020, Conceicao accused Pep Guardiola of displaying unpleasant behavior and using derogatory language during a Champions League defeat to Manchester City.
