Residents of Magboro in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State found themselves in mourning on Saturday, September 9, 2023, as a truck tragically crushed a pregnant woman to death and left her two-year-old child injured.
This heartbreaking incident unfolded when a truck with the registration number TTD-643ZY suddenly veered into the Magboro market due to brake failure, causing the driver to lose control.
Upon visiting the scene around 10:40 a.m., our correspondent observed that the truck had also collided with a car, and a motorcycle had become trapped beneath it.
Reports indicate that the woman had come to the market to purchase some foodstuffs moments before the dreadful accident occurred.
An anonymous eyewitness recounted the incident, stating, “She was the first person to see the truck coming. As the truck was coming uncontrollably, the pregnant woman was trying to flee with her little child, but her gown hindered her from running faster. So, she fell, and the truck climbed on her.”
Another witness mentioned that the motorcyclist, whose motorcycle was trapped beneath the truck, miraculously escaped death by jumping off his motorcycle.
Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, was contacted after the incident. She stated, “They (FRSC officials) will send the report to me immediately they are done with the rescue.”
As of now, our correspondent has not received further updates, as numerous calls to her phone have gone unanswered. Additionally, she has not responded to a text message sent to her before filing this report.
