President Muhammadu Buhari credits the remarkable achievements in critical infrastructure during his administration’s tenure to the harmonious relationship between the Executive and the Legislature. According to him, the Legislature serves as the foundation of any democratic system.
During the inauguration of the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja, President Buhari expressed his satisfaction with the completed national infrastructural projects commissioned across Nigeria in recent days. He emphasized that the government’s successes primarily stemmed from the cooperative interaction between the Executive and the Legislature.
The President stressed the crucial role of the Legislature in a democracy, stating that it ensures the consideration of the wishes and aspirations of all Nigerians during the law-making process. Additionally, it plays a critical role in overseeing the Executive and ensuring that government expenditures align with legislative intent.
President Buhari emphasized the positive outcomes of an independent Legislature, emphasizing his support for an autonomous National Assembly that can determine its leadership and shape its agenda in line with the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto. He highlighted his commitment to non-interference in the affairs of the legislature, fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration between the two branches of government.
The President attributed the cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislature to the successful passage of numerous bills into law, addressing longstanding challenges that hindered economic growth and development.
President Buhari proudly recognized the significant achievements in reforming the oil and gas sector, enhancing the electoral framework, diversifying the economy, improving transparency and accountability, combating insecurity, and promoting good governance. He emphasized that these accomplishments were verifiable and solidified the reputation of the 9th Assembly as one of the most productive in terms of outputs and outcomes.
Highlighting Nigeria’s abundant resources, President Buhari emphasized that the nation’s greatest asset lies in its people, particularly the youthful population that forms the labor force necessary for industrialization and economic development.
