Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over “the sudden and tragic death of President Idriss Deby of Chad on the front line while fighting against rebel soldiers.”
In a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, the President described the late Chadien leader “as a friend of Nigeria who enthusiastically lent his hand in efforts to defeat the murderous Boko Haram terrorists who have posed grave security challenges not only for Nigeria, but also neighbours, particularly Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic.”
The late Deby played a very active role in the regional joint collaboration in the military campaign against the Boko Haram terrorists.
Buhari admits the death of Deby will leave a big vacuum in efforts to jointly confront the Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
While condoling with the people of Chad and their new leader, President Buhari called for greater collaborations to defeat the terrorists.
