President Buhari Signs National Health Insurance Bill Into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the National Health Insurance Bill into law.

The bill was passed recently by the National Assembly.

Presidential Aide on National Assembly Matters, Umar El-Yakub, described the new law as a milestone legislation and legacy achievement for the Buhari administration .

The Act repeals the National Health Insurance Scheme Act, Cap. N42, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and enacts the National Health Insurance Authority Act.

The new law aims at ensuring an effective implementation of the national health insurance policy that ensures the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.

It will also promote, integrate, regulate all health insurance schemes in Nigeria.

Nigerians, irrespective of socio-economic status, will now have easy financial access to quality healthcare.

The President Aide says this will go a long way in reducing the high burden of morbidity and mortality in the Country.
