President Kenyatta Returns to Kenya after Ethiopia Security Talks

For a second time in a month,Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday evening returned to Nairobi from a trip to Addis Ababa, in a push to end hostilities in the troubled Tigray region.

Details of President Kenyatta’s visit were not publicised beyond the photo opportunity. The symbolic visit comes ahead of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’ arrival in Nairobi to deliberate on issues of regional security among others.

Kenyatta met senior leaders in the Ethiopian government including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde as well as representatives of political parties in the country seen as key influence pushers in Ethiopia.

He was in Addis Ababa just over a month after he visited the country to witness the inauguration of the new government of Prime Minister Abiy and his Prosperity Party following elections back in June.

The trip on Sunday is seen as further briefing session for the President ahead of a meeting with Blinken. President Kenyatta had earlier this month asked warring parties reach for a peaceful, workable solution.
