President Ramaphosa Joins Mass Funeral of Enyobeni Tavern Victims

The mass funeral of victims of the Enyobeni Tavern tragedy that took place in June commence at 9am Wednesday, July 6 2022.

The Enyobeni Tavern tragedy happened at the Scenery Park Sports Field in East London resulted in the death of 21 young persons.

President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa is in attendance at the funeral service to pay the country’s last respect to the young victims.

Others in attendance to mourn with families of the victims include Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane.

The cause of the tragic passing of the young people at the tavern has remained a mystery. However, Cele, during one of his visits to Gugulethu in Cape Town Tuesday, assured expectant residents progress was being made with investigations, and the public will be briefed on headway on Wednesday.

“We want to make sure something like this never happens again. It’s a sad situation, and it’s a situation that breaks every human being that has a soul,” he had said.

According to reports, the Eastern Cape government will provide transportation reimbursement to 10 members from each family of the victims.
