President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the South Africa-Kenya Trade and Investment Forum in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived South Africa yesterday for a three-day working visit to deepen bilateral relations.

The business forum aims to boost investment and bilateral trade between the two countries.

Kenya is a strategic trading partner for South Africa given its geopolitical location and influence in the East African region.

Total bilateral trade between the two countries increased from R 8.4 billion in 2016 to R 11.6 billion in 2019, before declining to R 7.7 billion last year due to COVID-19 .

South Africa is seeking to strengthen trade and investment relations with several African countries, following COVID-19.

President Kenyatta’s programme in South Africa also includes a visit to the Aspen Pharmacare, the South African-based subsidiary of Aspen, a global multinational pharmaceutical company that manufactures and distributes the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines.

The strategic partnership between the two nations is underpinned by common values and principles. Kenya is South Africa’s largest trading partner outside of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
