Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, who secured a third six-year term in the recent presidential elections, emphasised in a televised speech that the ongoing Gaza war poses a serious threat to Egypt’s national security. President Sisi stated that the election results symbolise the world’s rejection of Israel’s inhumane war on the Gaza Strip rather than merely representing the choice of a president.
Expressing concern over the consequences of the conflict, President Sisi called for an end to the war due to the significant threat it poses to Egypt’s national security and the extensive suffering experienced by Palestinians.
The Israeli air and ground attacks on Gaza since the October 7 incident by Hamas have resulted in substantial casualties, with health authorities reporting over 19,000 Palestinians killed and more than 52,000 injured.
The devastating impact of the war includes extensive damage to housing and infrastructure in Gaza, displacing nearly 2 million people within the densely-populated enclave.
President Sisi’s remarks highlight the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict, emphasising the severity of the situation and its implications for regional stability.
