Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi led a military funeral for former Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Sunday.
Ismail, who had been an assistant to El-Sisi since 2018, died at 67.
The funeral was held at the Lt. Gen. Hussein Tantawi Mosque in New Cairo and was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Speaker of the House Hanafy El-Gebaly, and Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki.

El-Sisi commiserated with Ismail’s family and praised him as a brilliant national figure who served the country during a critical phase.
Ismail had a background in engineering and held various positions as petroleum minister from July 2013 through September 2015.
He was named prime minister in September 2015 and served until June 2018.
Madbouly also expressed his appreciation for Ismail’s contributions to the nation, and Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry called him a great leader who led the country when it faced critical challenges
