President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Wednesday visiting President of the Chadian Transitional Military Council Mahamat Idriss Deby at the Ettihadia Palace.
Since the demise of former Chadian president Idriss Deby, his son, Mahamat Idriss Deby, took over to lead an 18-month transitional government.
El-Sisi restated Egypt’s keenness on promoting security, intelligence and military cooperation with Chad to counter terrorism and extremist ideology, Egypt’s presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
The meeting centred around the promoting of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Chad, mainly through activating a joint committee, with President El-Sisi affirming Egypt’s readiness to continue to cooperate with the Chadians in the areas of capacity-building.
On regional issues of mutual interest, including developments in Libya, both sides agreed on the importance of developing a clear mechanism as part of the political process to ensure the withdrawal of all foreign mercenaries in the country.
Deby hailed the close relations that bind the two countries, affirming Chad’s willingness to activate and promote bilateral cooperation with Egypt, Rady added.
He also expressed his deep appreciation for the support that Egypt’s people and leadership have offered to his country during its critical phase.
