Super Eagles Soar Nigeria Clinches AFCON 2023 Final Berth in Penalty Thriller

President Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s top team, the Super Eagles on the tremendous victory against South Africa in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON semi-finals match on Wednesday, February 7.

President Tinubu, who recently returned from a private trip in France, shared the heartfelt message on his official X handle shortly after the Eagles cruised into the finals.

The President wrote:

“From the Southernmost cape of Africa to the Plains of Mauritania and the coast of West Africa…
You have made us all Proud to be Nigerians!

“Go… Soar in the AFCON Finals. Well done, boys!”

News Central reports that the Super Eagles trashed South Africa on penalties, securing an instant spot at the AFCON finals.

The first goal came from Super Eagles Captain William Troost-Ekong who netted the ball during a penalty.

Shortly after, top striker Victor Osimhen scored another goal that was unfortunately, denied again.

South Africa was granted a penalty that led to the goal equalisation, bringing the scores to 1-1.

However, an after-match penalty shootout saw Nigeria netting three more goals that elevated them beyond reach.

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho fired the last shot that sent the eagles flying into the finals with a 4-2 final scores.

Top Super Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved the day with his expertise at the goalpost.

Nigerians all over the world are presently over the moon, basking in the euphoria of the great victory.
