The Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed his condolences to the people of Iwo-land in Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, following the death of their esteemed patriarch, Chief Oluremi Atanda Ademola.
The late Chief Oluremi Atanda was a distinguished educationist and administrator who made significant contributions to the development of the Old Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu extended his sympathies to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba (Monarch) Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, and the people of Iwo-land. The President also prayed for the soul of the elder statesman to rest in peace.
Chief Oluremi Atanda, patriarch of the Atanda family, served as the former Chairman of the Old Oyo State Civil Service Commission and was known as the Eketa of Iwoland in Osun State. He founded the Atanda Continuing Education Centre, a renowned institution that prepared students for university education in the Southwest during the 1970s and 1980s.
Additionally, he was a member of the 1978 Constituent Assembly and the 1994–1995 Political Reforms Conference.
