President Tinubu Names General Laka as Nigeria’s Anti-Terrorism Head

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has designated Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the fresh National Coordinator for the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating within the purview of the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The declaration arrived via a communiqué issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. This announcement highlights the green light given to General Laka’s appointment, indicating a strategic overhaul at the helm of the Counter-Terrorism Centre.

According to the communiqué, General Laka brings a plethora of experiences to his newfound position, stemming from his several roles in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria. His tactical adeptness has played a key role in dismantling terrorist factions that once thrived in the area.

Major-General Adamu Garba Laka

Furthermore, his tenure encompasses service in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the aegis of the United Nations, alongside his participation in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal as part of the Nigerian contingent.

Educationally, General Laka boasts a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and another in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Ngelale emphasised President Tinubu’s lofty anticipations for General Laka, urging him to harness his vast expertise to efficiently counter security threats through preemptive, proactive, and meticulous coordination in counter-terrorism endeavours.
