President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently presiding over his first Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Council advises the President on policy decisions and includes members such as former Presidents and Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, state Governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The meeting, which comes shortly after nationwide protests over economic hardship, is expected to address key national issues like food security, national security, and economic policies.
Ministers were also invited to provide updates on the administration’s policies before the Council offers its advice.
Former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar are participating, with some attending virtually.
There is no sign that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has attended the ongoing meeting. Although his presence was anticipated, his absence has been noticed and raises questions about his participation.
