Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the reappointment of Professor Moji Adeyeye as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Additionally, the President has sanctioned the appointment of Dr. Mansur Kabir as the Chairman of the Board of NAFDAC.
Several other key appointments under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have also been made:
- Professor Abba Zubairu has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), with Dr. Saleh Yuguda serving as the Chief Executive Officer.
- Dr. Olajide Idris has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Disease Control.
- Professor Afolabi Lesi and Dr. Fatima Kya have been appointed as the Board Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, respectively, of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Wasilat Giwa has been appointed as the Board Chairperson of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), with Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed serving as the Chief Executive Officer.
- Dr. Babajide Salako has been appointed as the Board Chairperson of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), with Dr. Tosan Erhabor appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the agency.
Additionally, appointments have been made for the Chief Medical Directors/CEOs of Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH) and Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH), with Prof. Adamu G. Bakari and Prof. Reuben Eifediyi, respectively, assuming these roles.
The new Director-General/CEO of the NCDC, Dr. Olajide Idris, brings a wealth of experience, having served as the Commissioner of Health in Lagos State and obtained degrees from prestigious institutions such as the University of Lagos and Yale University.
Prof. Abba Zubairu, the new NBSC Chairperson, has an illustrious career, having served as the Medical Director of Mayo Clinic in the United States, among other esteemed positions.
Dr. Fatima Kyari, the new MDCN CEO, is a distinguished ophthalmologist and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Medicine, with extensive academic qualifications, including degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of London.
In a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, it was emphasised that these appointments reflect the President’s commitment to improving healthcare standards in Nigeria, ensuring quality care for all citizens, and implementing international best practices in governance and regulation. The President expects these appointments to significantly enhance healthcare service delivery across Nigeria, thereby improving the overall quality of life and productivity of the population.
