Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed a review of the proposed N8,000 conditional cash transfer aimed at providing aid to vulnerable families impacted by the recent removal of petrol subsidy.
Special Adviser to the President, Dele Alake stated that the concerns and fears surrounding the program prompted Tinubu to take this decision.
Furthermore, the President has authorised the immediate release of fertilisers and grains to approximately 50 million farmers and households across the country.
This is intended to alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians during this transitional period. President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the approved N500 billion for cushioning the effects of subsidy removal will be utilised judiciously.
He said there will be an equitable distribution of relief materials to Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious, and political backgrounds.
