President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Aisha Maikudi from her position as Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, now renamed Yakubu Gowon University.
Maikudi’s tenure had been surrounded by controversy, with some faculty members claiming that her appointment was not legally valid.
Following her sack, President Tinubu has appointed Professor Lar Patricia Manko as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university to replace Maikudi.
Manko’s appointment is scheduled for a six-month term, and she will not be eligible to apply for the permanent Vice Chancellor role once it becomes available.

Along with Maikudi’s dismissal, Tinubu also made changes at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He removed Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu from his position as Acting Vice Chancellor, even though he was scheduled to complete his tenure on February 14.
Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam has now been appointed as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of UNN, also for a six-month period, with the same condition that he cannot apply for the permanent role.
Leadership changes at UNN were not limited to the Vice Chancellor’s office. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, with Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo stepping in as the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN. Ojo had previously held a similar position at the Federal University of Lokoja and the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti.
Other notable changes include Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi being appointed the new Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, Senator Sani Stores taking over as Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, and Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi becoming the new Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.
Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been named the new Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, replacing Senator Joy Emordi, who will now serve as Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education.
