Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has expressed dissatisfaction over the constant strike actions by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) since his assumption of office nine months ago.
The President, who spoke during the inauguration of the state’s Red Line Rail service in Lagos on Thursday, said the activities of the NLC within the short period of his administration were unacceptable.
He called on the Organised Labour to maintain peace in the country, while informing them that they were not the only voice of the masses.
“The Labour Union should understand that no matter how long we cling to our freedom and rights, the first strike within nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
“If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait until 2027. If not maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigerians,” he said.
Two days ago, NLC staged the #EndHungerNow nationwide protest to demand an end to the lingering economic hardship in the country. The Trade Union Congress (TUC) had earlier backed out of the plan after
President Tinubu was sworn into office as Nigeria’s 16th president on May 29, 2023. On that say, he declared that fuel subsidy was gone.
Shortly after the President’s declaration, fuel price and other commodities shot up immediately.
Unfortunately, cost of living has continued to be on the rise, as many Nigerians struggle to survive in the harsh economy.
