Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to unveil three significant gas processing plants, a move that is expected to augment Nigeria’s domestic gas supply by 500 million standard cubic feet per day, fostering economic growth and investment in the country.
The projects, spearheaded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its partners, align with the federal government’s commitment to harnessing the nation’s gas resources efficiently while curbing gas flaring.
In a statement released on Friday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, it was emphasised that the timely delivery of these projects shows President Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to bolstering domestic gas supply as a driver for economic prosperity.
The projects include:
- AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (GPP – 2) – 200 Million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/D): This expansion to the Kwale Gas Processing Plant (GPP-1) is designed to process 200 MMscf/d of rich gas, delivering lean gas through the OB3 Gas Pipeline. The additional gas supply will stimulate Nigeria’s industrialization and reduce dependency on LPG imports. Developed by AHL Limited, a joint venture between NNPC Limited and SEEPCO.
- ANOH Gas Processing Plant (AGPC) – 300MMscf/d: The integrated 300MMscf/d capacity gas processing plant will handle non-associated gas from the Assa North-Ohaji South field in Imo State, producing dry gas, condensate, and LPG. This project, owned by ANOH Gas Processing Company—a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Seplat Energy Plc—will significantly bolster domestic gas supply, enhancing power generation and industrial growth.
- ANOH-OB3 CTMS Gas Pipeline Project: This initiative entails the construction of a 36”x23.3km transmission gas pipeline from the Assa North-Ohaji South primary treatment facility (PTF) to the OB3 Custody Transfer Metering Station (CTMS), facilitating the distribution of dry gas into the OB3 pipeline system.
President Tinubu’s administration aims to leverage the creation of these gas processing plants to propel industrialisation, create jobs, and enhance energy security in the country.
