Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the people of Yobe State that those responsible for the recent attack in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, will face justice. The attack, which took place on Sunday evening, September 1, 2024, saw suspected gunmen looting and setting ablaze shops and houses in the remote village.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu condemned the attack, calling it an atrocious and cowardly act of terror committed by a degraded group of criminals. He emphasised that the perpetrators would not escape justice, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to maintaining security and law enforcement.
The President expressed his condolences to the government and people of Yobe State, particularly to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack. He also offered prayers for the recovery of the wounded.
As of now, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed. The Yobe State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the loss of life and property.
